DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Full-Time: For Immediate Hire

Under the artistic direction of choreographer David Parsons, Parsons Dance is one of America's most successful and longest established contemporary modern dance companies.

Parsons Dance is seeking a highly organized, dynamic and dedicated development professional to join our small (but mighty!) administrative team. The Development Manager reports to the Executive Director, and provides support for all fundraising activities of the organization. The Development Manager should be detail-oriented, efficient, proactive, and passionate about live performance.  

Now is an exciting growth period for Parsons Dance – the company is in the early stages of a major campaign to fund strategic planning investments and legacy work.  The Development Manager will play a vital role in a highly collaborative administrative team, and have the opportunity to contribute enormously to the future success of Parsons Dance. 

Responsibilities include:

Development Administration:

  • Development calendar: keeping track of proposal and reporting deadlines, special events, appeals and solicitations, board and committee meetings

  • Development CRM system (Salesforce) and data hygiene: ensuring all solicitations, donations, contact information, moves management tracking, and communications are logged consistently and in a timely manner

  • Gift processing and acknowledgement: send acknowledgment letters, prepare income reports, reconcile donations with the Business Manager, follow up on pledges and open invoices.

  • File maintenance: Filing and maintaining all development documents in the company’s shared Google drive

  • Assemble and maintain data and attendance tracking for all performance and educational programs

Individual Giving and Events:

  • Donor stewardship: managing and tracking benefit fulfillment including tickets, thank-yous, and gifts

  • Research: building profiles of giving history, capacity, and event attendance

  • Donor services: serving as a point of contact for donors, prospects, and Board members through phone and email

  • Annual appeals: coordinating preparations for appeals including mailings, replies, and reports

  • Annual Gala: budgeting and coordinating all logistics with the venue, vendors, and staff/volunteers

  • Cultivation events: planning and executing smaller cultivation and fundraising events such as opening night parties, studio showings including invitations, managing RSVPs, staffing, volunteers, vendors, setup and breakdown 

Institutional Giving:

  • Supporting the Director of Institutional Giving with compiling requested materials, accurate attendance data, and documentation for each grant application and report

  • Liaising with the Business Manager to provide the appropriate financials for each application or report

Executive Director + Board Support:

  • Managing the timeline and scheduling major gift solicitations in conjunction with Fundraising consultants Advance NYC

  • Up-to-date tracking of fundraising data for each campaign in collaboration with the Director of Information Strategy

  • Drafting communications and correspondence for donors and prospects

  • Scheduling board, committee, and donor meetings

  • Serving as a liaison to the Board Fundraising Committee, drafting agendas and materials

  • Preparing Board Packets

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years of experience in a non-profit, fundraising, event planning, or equivalent. The candidate should be based in the NYC area, comfortable working in a virtual office environment, and available for in-person programs. Some in-person evenings and weekends are required. Candidates should be comfortable working in a database such as Salesforce, and virtually on Zoom and Slack. 

The ideal candidate should possess the following strengths:

  • Adaptability, flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative spirit

  • Know how to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Work both independently and in a team environment

  • Superb verbal and written communication skills 

  • Maintains a high-level of confidentiality and excels in donor stewardship 

  • Has experience with database software Salesforce or equivalent CRM 

  • Has solid ability working with Zoom, Slack, Google Drive and Google Docs, Canva, and Microsoft Office 

  • Has a passion for the arts and a great sense of humor! 

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience.  Range: $55,000-$62,500

  • Health insurance after 60 days with no employee contribution

  • Retirement Plan with a 3% employer contribution after 1 year

  • 2 weeks of paid vacation
