2019 Joyce Season: It’s a Wrap!
On Sunday May 26, as our dancers took their bows to mark the last performance of the 2019 Joyce season, all of us at Parsons Dance felt pride in what was an especially successful run and gratitude for the audiences who expressed boundless enthusiasm for what we do. These audiences included young people attending our school performances and family friendly weekend matinees who were thrilled by the explosive Caught and equally moved by the relative quietness of Round My World. As the company moves forward with tour dates and two New York City based summer intensive programs, we feel energized by you, our loyal fans.
Parsons Dance Partners with Loro Piana
Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Loro Piana, the Italian luxury brand, reached out to David Parsons to create a piece that our dancers could perform while wearing Loro Piana’s Open Walk shoes. Entitled The Rare Walk, the lively work was performed for one night only during the Joyce season and was also presented at the opening of Loro Piana’s new store in the Meatpacking district.

David Parsons Creates "A Play For Love" for Kansas City Ballet
This spring, David returned to Kansas City, his hometown, to set a new piece on Kansas City Ballet. Making its world premiere on May 10 on a shared program with iconic choreographers Twyla Tharp and William Forsythe, A Play For Love is a “delightful romp” (The Independent, Kansas City) driven by a comedic narrative that explores the dynamics between some of Shakespeare’s most notable couples.
Howell Binkley Nominated for 2019 Tony Award
Congratulations to Parsons Dance co-founder Howell Binkley on his Tony Award nomination for Lighting Design for the Broadway hit Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of the Temptations. No stranger to accolades, Howell has previously won Tony Awards for Jersey Boys and Hamilton. We’ll be cheering for him on Sunday, June 9 when we expect him to receive another well-deserved award.
