The choreography blends social dancing with a jazzy, smooth style that celebrates the party scene of the 1970s. SHINING STAR showcases witty, playful ensemble numbers and features a sensuously soulful duet as its centerpiece. The dancers exude pure joy laced with funky attitude as they strut their stuff on the dance floor in this incredibly fun piece that dares you not to shimmy in your seat. Shining Star was commissioned by Sandy Weill in honor of his wife Joan and her extraordinary commitment and dedication to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
